Motherhood Out Loud, conceived by Susan R. Rose and Joan Stein, is a culturally and gender diverse series of monologues on the subject of Motherhood, written by a host of celebrated writers. Motherhood Out Loud traverses the experience of motherhood in all its wonderful glory, from inception, birth, sexuality, growing up, letting go and the inevitable role reversal that occurs as we find ourselves parenting our parents. After successful productions all over the country, including an off-Broadway run in New York City, this will be the show’s Berkshire premiere. The cast will feature Jane Kaczmarek and Michel Gill along with some celebrity surprises and local favorites like Suzi Banks Baum.
After the show, WAM Theatre Artistic Director Kristen van Ginhoven and producer Susan Rose will moderate a panel discussion with the cast and Berkshire community members, delving further into the wide-ranging challenges and choices surrounding motherhood today.
Jayne Atkinson, a mother, wife and actress, has lived in the Berkshires for 6 years. She is a two-time Tony Award nominee and has been a regular on the hit series 24 and CRIMINAL MINDS. She starred most recently in the Netflix hit HOUSE OF CARDS and has performed locally on the Berkshire Theater Festival Stage and The Berkshire Playwrights Lab. She collaborated with Kristen van Ginhoven to produce their 2013 fundraiser “Claiming Her Place” – a lively panel discussion of the inequities that still exist in the entertainment industry for women performers along with what it means to step up and claim your place in your life.
Susan R. Rose is an award-winning theatrical, film and TV producer. Rose produced the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, at the historic Ford’s Theatre in DC in 1980. Her other Broadway producing credits include David Rabe’s Hurlyburly (Tony Award nomination, Best Play), Athol Fugard’s Bloodknot (Tony Award nomination, Best Revival of a Play), and Larry Shue’s The Nerds. Susan is a Co-Conceiver of the new hit show Motherhood Out Loud, which premiered at Primary Stages, NYC in October 2011. Susan is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Producers Guild.
